Before you expect me to give a brief description of the online examination system, I would like you to read the following tweet by Julie Dirksen, Learning Strategy and Design Consultant.

“Learning experiences are like journeys. The journey starts where the learning is now and ends when the learner is successful. The end of the journey isn’t knowing more, it’s doing more.”

It sums up the ultimate aim of learning, right?

The end outcomes depend on the learning journey. And when we speak of the latest digitized e-learning landscape, there’s no specific way that could decide what would work and what won’t. It’s all about trying, failing, and again trying until the goal is achieved.

Examination, being one of the most vital components of the smart edTech classrooms, it’s essential for us to focus on creating assessments that have the crux of the day-to-day teaching-learning sessions. The online assessments and tests provision, when used wisely, can act as a catalyst in simplifying & adding value to the entire process.

As a faculty or educator, here’s what you need to know about the online examination system-

What’s an Online Examination System?

Well, an online examination system is simply e-learning software that facilitates the provision of paperless exams by enabling faculty to upload examination questions — in multiple formats, assess them automatically, and calculate students’ grades.

There’s absolutely no need for a traditional examination setting! Students can give exams at their convenience and teachers can conduct the process in a hassle-free way.

Step-by-Step Working of Online Examination System

Now that you’ve got an idea about the online examination management system, pay attention, as I guide you with its working. It’s quite a simple-to-use educational ERP system that can be integrated into school ERP software, college ERP software, and university ERP software as well.

Step 1: Application & Online Fees Payment

First and foremost, students need to enroll themselves for online examinations by choosing a particular course or subject. They need to log in to their online examination management system portal and fill in the online application form along with necessary documents and pay the online fees.

Step 2: Student’s Exam Confirmation

As soon as the educational institution receives the application & collects online exam fees, they send a confirmation to the students regarding the same. The confirmation can be sent either via email or in the form of text on the candidate’s mobile number.

Step 3: Scheduling of Date & Time for Online Assessments

Now, you might be wondering what details are sent to the students. Well, the schedule of examination along with its detailed instruction is sent. It helps students to make their availability at the specified time and date to ensure smooth conduction of the online tests.

The entire schedule is generally displayed on the dashboard. Students can check any given information with just a few clicks.

Step 4: Setting Up Different Types of Online Assessments

Now, here comes the part of the teacher. To develop & nurture students’ skills, the faculty gets the authority to set-up various types of online assessments. They can even prepare questionnaires and e-content in multiple formats — MCQs and descriptive questions, logical-thinking enhancing questions, and much more. Adding videos and interactive images to make it interesting can also be done.

The ball is in the court of the faculty.

They can design online exams as they wish!

Step 5: Submission & Auto-Evaluation

So, when the students appear for the online assessments and tests via the e-learning tool, they get a complete set of instructions. It is displayed in the beginning before they jump into the question section.

With the help of their knowledge and intuition, they need to submit answers to the questions. If they find something difficult, they can either mark the question for review or skip it completely. Everything depends on the school or college’s examination rules.

Once, they’re done with solving the virtual question paper, they need to submit it and within no time — an auto-calculated result will be displayed. The instant online grade-card generation is so far the best thing about the online assessments as the students don’t need to wait and go through the period of “anxiety” and “anticipation”!

That’s it!

The journey can be completed just like that! The online examination system, thus, is the best way to conduct and manage online examinations.
