“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work learning from failure.” — General Colin Powell

Forget about online exams, preparing for any exam takes a lot!

Anxiety, fears of failure, and so many “what ifs?” roll with the thought of appearing for tests.

And, now that everything has gone online due to the sudden digital shift, the students are finding it quite nerve-wracking to prepare and score well in online assessments & exams. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that this is the first-generation to go to the virtual landscape entirely.

So, obviously, the pressure on students is tremendous!

While appearing for multiple choice based question tests (MCQs) is comparatively easier, appearing for descriptive tests is comparatively tough.

So, here are some easy tips for school & college students who want to prepare & excel in the online descriptive tests…

Tip #1: Grammatical Knowledge Quotient

I know it may sound weird to students who don’t come from a literature background, but you need to have some basic grammatical knowledge to go for online descriptive tests.

You can’t go on writing anything that’s grammatically incorrect.

See, the motive of descriptive tests is to let you express your thoughts & knowledge about the subject. However, if you are not able to construct proper sentences and elaborate on your learning, then, you can’t excel in the descriptive tests.

Tip #2: Enhance Your Speed

My second tip for you is to understand that the online descriptive test software has an automated time-limit set before the test begins.

It means that you need to maintain a speed that matches your efforts.

Regardless of how strong you are academic, you will have to manage your time as you pen down your thoughts. And once you get this, you will have to enhance your speed!

The best way you could enhance your typing speed is by practicing writing the answers in MS Word. You can easily get the free version on your laptop, computer, or even your mobile phones. Just download it and analyze how speedily you could type. It will give you an edge when you handle the online examination management system.

Tip #3: Able to use the platform — Technical Aspects

Okay, so this tip is one of the most crucial tips for you.

It’s better you don’t ignore it.

Ask your teachers & faculty members to allow you to use the online test software at least a few times beforehand the final exam.

I have observed that even bright students fail or perform poorly in final online assessment tests because of the nervousness of using education ERP software. It’s not that they lack something, it’s just the psychological impact of the “new normal” exams pattern!

If you don’t want to be one of them, then try to get used to the college ERP or school software for exams.

Tip #4: Absorb the e-content like a sponge

It’s quite funny that we are discussing how you could prepare for online assessment tests, but there’s no discussion on studying the curriculum!

For achieving better learning outcomes, you must study the curriculum thoroughly. For describing anything, you need to have sound knowledge about any topic.

The fool-proof way to acquire valuable proficiency is consuming as much e-content as possible.

The online assessment system is integrated with e-learning modules, right?

So, taking the advantage of downloading study material in various formats such as PDFs, PPTs, video tutorials, ebooks, etc to hit the nail on the head!

To Sum Up

‘Practice makes a man perfect’– this is the key to crack the online descriptive tests easily!

You need not go into a psychological zone where you create unnecessary fear about the things that don’t even exist in reality.

Go easy, but work hard!

And before taking your leave, I would like to suggest to teachers of schools and colleges that when you conduct online tests, make sure your institution is well-equipped with a user-friendly online examination system.
